Travelling long haul with a small child was always going to be a challenge but thankfully Otto was up to the task and was amazing for a good 95% of the flight.

Not much to report on the long trip really. We’d heard plenty of horror stories regarding the U.S. equivalent of “Border force” so we were pleasantly surprised to find them efficient and friendly, with only a mild moment of farce when attempting to take prints of Deb’s wonky netball finger.
The only real pain was waiting an hour for our bags in New York, not sure if they were being individually unwrapped and hand-processed but it took forever. E was getting ratty by that stage, but in fairness, so were the rest of us.
A relatively quick, relatively expensive Uber got us to our hotel in Times Square. Typically in hotel parlance, “Times Square” could mean anything from several blocks away from Times Square to actually being located in New Jersey with a token photo of Times Square in the lobby.
In this case, however, the hotel is right in the middle of things, and due to some fine negotiating on my part we were upgraded to a room with a view – I’ll post a shot when the wifi in the room stops being so rubbish.
A quick wander and some dinner (average Mexican), then Deb and I ducked out for a cheeky drink leaving Otto in his nanny’s capable hands.
Everyone has been so friendly so far, having a cute little boy in tow appears to be a good ice breaker for people. Lucky E loves an audience!
Sleeping will be an interesting challenge between the jet lag and the traffic noise. Let’s see how we go!
